In June 1994, the Reston Association approved a new palette of colors for house exteriors and front doors. Colors in this palette are the only ones authorized for use on townhomes in Hunters Green Cluster. Each house's color is registered with the Covenants Administrator for Reston Association. Homeowners are entitled to repaint the exteriors of their homes with their registered (i.e., the same) color without any further requests or approval process. However, if you wish to change your house color to a different one in the palette, you must first file a Design Review Board application with the Covenants Administrator. The only restriction is that you cannot select the same color(s) as those of your next-door neighbor(s). If you fail to go through the approval process and register your new color, your next-door neighbors could conceivably apply for and register it for their own houses, and you would be forced to repaint with a different color. If you have questions regarding the DRB request process, or to find out what colors are currently registered for your house or your neighbor's house, call Bea McIntyre, Reston Association's Covenants Administrator assigned to Hunters Green Cluster, at 703-435-6568. Directly below this paragraph is the approved palette of colors. In the thumbnail pictures below, if you hover your mouse over a color, a text box will appear with the name and number of the color. If you click on any of the thumbnails, a larger version of it will appear. Use the "Back" pointer in your browser to return to this page. (A word of caution: various combinations of computer video cards and monitors may display the colors differently. You can expect to get a reasonable idea of the various colors, but you should look at actual, physical color chips to be sure you are seeing the colors accurately. You can inspect the color chips by borrowing the actual palette board from Bob Deans (703-391-1579) or you can get your own set of chips by visiting one of the paint suppliers further down this page.) House ColorsThe House Colors below are available in "Cabots OVT Solid Color Acrylic Stain". House Colors are to be applied to wood siding, downspouts (but not gutters), wall vents, and fences. Your selected house color must also be used on any "secondary" doors. Secondary doors include any exterior laundry room entry or any exterior storage room door that may exist with your house model. It is also to be used on primary entry door trim when that door is set into a wood (instead of a brick) wall. Door ColorsThe "primary" entry (i.e., front) door will be painted using "Moorglo Latex House and Trim" paint with one of the colors below, but selected in accordance with the matrix further below. Any storm door over covering the primary entry doors must be painted in the same color as the primary entry door itself. Trim ColorThe trim color, Cabots OVT Solid Color Acrylic Stain #0637, is to be applied to all fascia boards, gutters (but not downspouts), metal caps on common firewalls, flashing, metal railings, roof vents, attic fan housings, chimney caps, and skylight window trim. It is also to be use on primary entry door trim in those models in which the entry door is set into a brick (instead of a wood) wall.
House - Door Color CombinationsThe choice of a house color limits the choice of a front door color. Below is a matrix that shows which door colors can be used with each of the house colors. The house colors are listed in the leftmost column. The remaining columns each represent a front door color. The cross-points in the matrix indicate which door colors can be used with which house colors. DOOR COLORS
